In the mid-1990s. famed science fiction writer William Gibson teamed up with photographer and artist Robert Longo for a project intended to bring cyberpunk to the masses. With the internet in its early days and the world full of speculation about what the new millennium would bring. it seemed right for a look ahead into what the future might well hold. All of that was wrapped up in surefire hit Johnny Mnemonic ? and now it?s coming to Netflix!

The fact that most of you won?t have heard of this movie is a hint that this didn?t work out. Despite featuring Keanu Reeves at the peak of his early stardom, and a fun cast including Dolph Lundgren, Ice-T, Takeshi Kitano, and Henry Rollins the film was a colossal flop.

It picked up a bunch of Golden Raspberry awards, grossed a measly $50m internationally, and is currently described by Rotten Tomatoes thusly: ?As narratively misguided as it is woefully miscast, Johnny Mnemonic brings the ?90s cyberpunk thriller to inane new whoas ? er, lows.?

Johnny Mnemonic

While nobody can really argue that Johnny Mnemonic is a success I have a soft spot for it. It?s a deeply strange movie, with its wealth of off-beat supporting characters adding up to a unique world that doesn?t feel like much else. Similarly, Reeves is actually pretty fun in this and his passionate ?I want room service!? monologue is at least memorable.

The movie was also mentioned a lot last year in relation to CD Projekt Red?s game Cyberpunk 2077, as both feature Keanu in a grubby science-fiction dystopia dealing with chips in people?s heads. So, if you?re curious and have a decent appetite for cheese, check out Johnny Mnemonic when it arrives on Netflix on Nov. 1.

By the way, the super committed should track down the superior Japanese region director?s cut which features more Takeshi Kitano (always a good thing).

We?re well into October now which means Spooky Season is officially underway! It?s time to start celebrating Halloween by enjoying the scarier things in life, and who doesn?t like a scary movie? Well, it turns out quite a few of you. So, we?ve put together a guide to help you pick which horror films to watch whilst participating in the grand Halloween tradition, whether scary movies are your thing or not quite the vibe.

Three ACTUALLY SCARY Movies

The Descent (2005) – dir. Neil Marshall

Starting off our list of movies that are sure to give you a fright is The Descent. If you?re afraid of the dark, small spaces and terrifying, cannibalistic cave-dwelling monsters (who isn?t), The Descent is the movie for you.

The Descent follows the story of six women who decide to make a name for themselves by venturing into a previously unexplored cave system. Along their way they face various, claustrophobic survival challenges as well as the aforementioned spine-chilling cave monsters.

Dealing with grief, loss and toxic friendships this movie holds a depth that differentiates it from other films with similar premises. Providing some stunning visuals, memorable jump scares and clocking in at just over an hour and a half, The Descent is perfect for a quick thrill that is sure to stick with you.

Crimson Peak (2015) – dir. Guillermo del Toro

Del Toro has truly made a name for himself in recent years. One third of the ?Three Amigos? of Mexican Directors that swept the Oscars a few years back, del Toro?s films now have a firm foothold in the horror genre. Crimson Peak is no exception.

With an all-star cast and a plot rooted firmly in the gothic tradition, Crimson Peak has somewhat passed under the radar but is still well worth a watch. If you?re looking for a movie with aesthetically pleasing sets, haunting jump-scares and a macabre narrative then why not check out Crimson Peak for all your Halloween needs?

The Orphanage (2007) – dir. JA Bayona

You may be familiar with J.A. Bayona?s academy award winning, The Impossible (2012) but before that he directed The Orphanage. Telling the story of a woman who buys back her childhood home, which also used to be an orphanage for disabled children, The Orphanage is uncomfortable from the start. Shortly after moving her family back there her son begins to communicate with an imaginary friend. That is before he mysteriously disappears.

The Orphanage deals with less jump-scares and more psychological horror than our previous suggestions and the fact it?s subtitled will make sure you don?t miss any of the scares. If you?re looking for something more artsy, then The Orphanage may be the film for you.

Three LESS SCARY Movies

Addams Family Values (1993) – dir. Barry Sonnenfeld

Now I may be biased considering this is a childhood favourite, but topping off our list for less scary, but still Halloween appropriate movies, is Addams Family Values. A short, sweet film aimed at families, Addams Family Values definitely fits the criteria of spooky but not too scary.

This sequel to the 1991 classic follows the shenanigans of the titular Addams Family, offering a plot involving a jaded serial killer, scarily smiley summer camps and family fall outs. Yes, it is as weird as it sounds. If you?re looking for the perfect combination of spooky-themed silliness, Addams Family Values is sure to get a laugh out of you.

Courtesy of IMDB

Corpse Bride (2005) ? dir. Tim Burton and Mike Johnson

Singing Skeletons, Tim Burton AND Helena Bonham Carter; Corpse Bride ticks all the boxes that make a Halloween staple. A childhood classic, Corpse Bride is usually overlooked for its shinier sibling The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).

But there?s something to be said for Corpse Bride?s stunning stop-motion animation, arguably iconic soundtrack and simple but haunting storyline. One particularly memorable moment is the transition from the living world to the underworld, the shift in colour palette creating a jarring yet striking juxtaposition. If you?re looking for another Halloween appropriate flick that won?t give you nightmares, why not revisit this 2005 hit.

Courtesy of IMDB

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) – dir. Jim Sharman

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a classic for a reason. It?s great fun. ?Rocky Horror? offers a campy, over the top look at some of our favourite horror and sci-fi tropes, exploiting these well-known themes for a weird, wacky and overall hilarious viewing. Oh, and it?s a musical. If this isn?t enough for you then ?Rocky Horror? deals with deeper themes of being yourself in a world that isn?t accepting or understanding, and a group viewing provides a great place for self-expression through dressing up. Although the film was made in the 70s, it has very much stood the test of time.

Inside the Actors Studio is an interview program for actors broadcast since 1994 on American television (In Spain, on Movistar +) and which is also presented by the interpreter James Lipton. He presented, rather, because just a few days ago he announced his retirement at 92, leaving the space in the hands of a rotating group of hosts. One of the iconic parts of the program occurs right at the end, when it is the current students of the drama school associated with the organization who directly address the Robert De Niro or Sean Penn on duty. At the beginning of the century, a young man with blond hair and a three-day beard appeared on the screen to ask the two Oscar winners a question. The 24-year-old would return to the show in 2011, but this time sitting in the guest chair. He couldn’t stop crying during the entire recording. That aspiring Bradley Cooper can now boast of calling Robert De Niro ?father? after collaborating with him on up to four films and having an avowed admirer at Penn., who claimed that his directorial debut was “the best he had seen in years.” Was referring to A star has been born, one of the most anticipated films of the year with Lady Gaga and Cooper as protagonists, and which will be released this October 5 after having conquered critics and audiences in the festival calendar. But the star who is now Bradley Cooper had to overcome several obstacles to achieve shine more brightly than anyone in the Hollywood firmament. This is how he did it.

Stage 1: Handsome consort

Bradley Cooper’s beginnings in the seventh art cannot be described as meteoric. Host of a (crappy) travel show, episodic roles in series such as Sex in New York and a good number of romantic comedies (Bride by contract, From wedding to wedding, What’s wrong with men) as a gallant consort, more demanding to look physical attractive than acting talent. Nevertheless, he claims to have been discarded in a casting for “not being f **** ble.” The title of ‘sexiest man alive in the world’ would later condemn this statement and make his mother “very happy”. His first recognizable entry on IMDB would come with a supporting role in the spy series. Alias.

Stage 2: Drug and Alcohol Addiction

At the age of 29, his severe addiction led him to have suicidal thoughts and to ask the person in charge of the series, JJ Abrams (Lost, The Force Awakens) to separate him from successful fiction by feeling that the relevance of his character had diminished. I wanted to drop everything. “If I continued [con el consumo] I was going to sabotage my whole life ?, confessed the actor. On one occasion he even deliberately hit his head on the ground several times, ending up in hospital. In 2006 he married the also interpreter Jennifer Esposito, from whom he would divorce in just a few months. Cooper claims to have managed to stay sober to date and it was just at that turnaround that things started to work out for him. The paradox is that it was all due to a tremendous hangover.

Stage 3: Leader of the ‘cipotudo’ humor

A Golden Globe for the best comedy or musical film, 400 million euros of collection worldwide (it cost 30) that would be surpassed in the second part, and instant stardom. Hangover in Las Vegas, the highest grossing comedy for over 18s in history, in addition to being one of the most unexpected successes in Hollywood of this century, it also his rise as an idol for a whole generation of young people. Cooper’s finding was that audiences fell for Phil Wenneck, a backward-looking, narcissistic and injury-prone college teacher, thanks to the natural charm of his interpreter.

Stage 4: The search for the statuette

At the beginning of this decade Cooper had everything on his face. Named the sexiest man alive in the world, he chained blockbusters and it seemed a matter of time before he decided to take root in the mecca of cinema with some superhero of those who fill you with two decades of work based on sagas. But the actor decided to double down and try to achieve what billionaire stars have risked even their physical health for (hello, Leo DiCaprio): respect for film critics. Cooper has tried to prove that those who claim that his acting talent is not up to its media coverage are wrong and that it is entirely deserved that his name appears on the so-called A List of Hollywood. From the hand of renowned directors such as David O. Russell or Clint Eastwood, achieved the milestone of being nominated for an Oscar in three consecutive editions by The good side of things, The great American scam and The Sniper. You are still yearning for your first statuette and may not have to wait long to get it.

Stage 5: The Elephant Man

The forging of a name in the pages of culture was not limited to the sets, it also encompassed the stages of Broadway and London’s West End. Cooper, at the peak of his popularity, withdrew from filming blockbuster to dedicate himself body and soul to the text that made him fall in love with the profession thanks to the David Lynch film. Such was his obsession with The elephant Man that turned it into his thesis for the drama school of the Actors Studio. Accompanied by Patricia Clarkson (Open wounds), the performer garnered much-desired critical attention. ?Cooper reminds us that some stars can act. It is impressive ?, published The Guardian. All while beginning a very discreet sentimental relationship with the model Irina Shayk and the fruit of which Lea, her only daughter, was born.

Stage 6: “Star” filmmaker

Many called the presentation of A star has been born as part of the film lineup of the prestigious Venice Film Festival. The movie, remake From a classic story made into a movie on different occasions (the last one starring Barbra Streisand in 1976), it was supposed to become a box office melodrama with no major prize ambition. But Bradley Cooper, who already surprised by getting behind the camera for the first time in his career by replacing another of his teachers – Clint Eastwood – was convinced that the musical was destined for higher heights. He was not mistaken, the critics have raved about the reinterpretation of a contemporary myth (that of the self-destructive artist and the promise with talent to polish) played by a surprising Lady Gaga and Cooper himself, who also shines as a filmmaker. ?What makes him so good is that he directs by making you look at what is happening, not at his handling of the camera. The characters above all. It is the mark of a great storyteller. It is the birth of a star director “, states the British edition of GQ. A star has been born, which opens this October 5 in Spain, already part as one of the favorites for the next Oscars.

Stage 7: Now what?

The projection of Bradley Cooper seems far from peaking. In the absence of knowing if the next appointment at the Dolby Theater will grant him a place on the list of great actors who also triumphed behind the camera (Eastwood, Redford, Clooney), he has not put aside his acting career and we will see him accompanying the return as an interpreter of Eastwood in The Mule this very december. Currently in pre-production is also his second film as director / protagonist: the biopic of the composer Leonard Bernstein (West Side Story), of whom in this 2018 the centenary of his birth is celebrated. This star is not fleeting.

Although there are many awards a year to recognize the best actors of the moment, there is a tradition to reach that point and many times some names are left out to leave the recognized figures at the forefront. That doesn’t stop the audience and the industry itself from seeing a promising future in these young actors. Every so often there is a wave of actors that we begin to see everywhere. For example, Timothée Chalamet who became famous with Call Me By Your Name – 97% and that we will soon see in Duna – 75%, or Zendaya who went star Disney a protagonizar Malcolm & Marie – 60%. Years ago, Jennifer Lawrence was the star of the moment thanks to her participation in The Hunger Games – 84%.

Of course, a negative effect of this type of attention is that these actors begin to be in all the films and quickly tire the audience. But this is not uncommon when you consider that Hollywood quickly forgets and that the present moment can make the difference between starring in something great or staying in minor productions for not taking the impulse. The usual thing is that these stars start with more independent titles and, in one way or another, they reach large franchises that monopolize their time for a few years, just as Lawrence suffered with X-Men: Dark Phoenix – 29%.

The Hollywood Reporter just posted a list called The New Hollywood A-List where they put those actors who are being in high demand right now and who have great potential for the future. In addition to awards and sagas, these actors could become the highest paid in the industry. Being part of the A-List is a way of saying that these interpreters are requested directly by the directors or producers, instead of doing traditional castings.

Anya Taylor-Joy became popular overnight thanks to The Witch – 91%, a horror film that divided the public to such a degree that it continues to be talked about. Regardless of whether or not he liked the movie, Taylor’s acting work was never in doubt. The Sliver Tape – 75% also served to make it clear how easy it is for her to move between genres and productions with different resources. He recently starred in the series Lady’s Gambit – 93%, for which she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries and will soon premiere The Mystery of Soho – 80%, one of the most anticipated films of the moment that is directed by Edgar Wright. Also, many hope to see her in Angry, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road – 97%.

Florence Pugh’s appearance is no surprise. His most recent appearance on Black Widow – 87% only served to consolidate her image before the public that already wants to see more of her within the UCM. Pugh owes his fame to Lady Macbeth – 85%, Little women – 94% and Fighting with my Family – 86%; three productions so different from each other that the actress showed her faculties quickly. The interpreter seeks to maintain a balance between millionaire productions and independent films, and has the great benefit of being adored by the public thanks to her accessible personality.

On the list we also see Regé-Jean Page, who became known worldwide for his work on the series of Netflix Bridgerton – 92%. Unfortunately for his fans, the actor decided not to return for the second season, in part because job offers of all kinds are already raining down on him. There’s even been a lot of talk about whether or not he should be Daniel Craig’s replacement as James Bond. For now, Page will appear in The Gray Man, Dungeons & Dragons, and in the reboot of The Saint.

Jonathan Majors is also included. He is best known for The Last Black Man in San Francisco – 100%, 5 Bloods – 100% and Lovecraft Country Series – 100%. The 31-year-old actor will also have a role in Creed III, Devotion and took his step inside the MCU with Loki – 96%. Something interesting about him is that his fame was not obtained on social networks, because he prefers to stay away from them. Everything he has had to show he has done in his films. Finally there’s Anthony Ramos, who starred in En el barrio – 95%, is on the list thanks to his charisma and the show of his dramatic abilities in the series In Treatment from HBO which has just released a new, late and improved season.

John Wick it is the triumph of simplicity. Each of the three films starring Keanu Reeves does not have a complex plot. There are also no phrases and extensive dialogues, in the style Game of Thrones, during which philosophy is done. No. John Wick you don’t point to that line and you don’t need to. He is moved by more mundane and close issues: revenge and the sense of survival.

Those reasons are part of the elements that made it one of the best action movies of recent years. Presenting violence in a stark form is a declaration of principles of Lionsgate. The production house is saying out loud: ?Do you want action movies? Here’s one! ” John Wick has no other aspirations: his objectives are clear and everything he develops through Keanu Reeves he does it in a good way. It is an example of when less is more. Much more.

In this context of violence, impeccable fight choreographies and blood, silence and calm are found in one place: The Continental. That hotel franchise that functions as embassies of crime. There, all those who are part of that network of murderers can stop to sleep one night or converse as people free of guilt. About that place, in particular the headquarters located in New York, will be one of the spin-off inspired by the universe John Wick.

‘The Continental’: Why is it a good idea?

The series will bear the same name as the hotel, The Continental. For now, it is expected to take place in New York, where the headquarters are managed by Winston. This character, in the three films of John Wick, Is interpreted by Ian McShane. If no more has been written about him and among film fans this work is not cited in good terms, it is worth suspecting that it has to do with the contempt that action films usually have.

In addition to his work as the site manager, Winston has a close relationship with John Wick. In such a murky universe, the definition of that bond could be friendship. This causes different moments of complicity and, also, tension between the two of them – especially when John violates the rules of The Continental-. However, little of that relationship will be covered in the series, as advanced Kevin Beggs, president of Lionsgate.

If we talk about icons of the generation Z, with the permission of Olivia Rodrigo, we cannot ignore the name that has not stopped ringing in social networks in recent days, that of Anna Cathcart ?Although the truth is that both have in common not only their age (18 years), but also their origin. Both come from the Disney factory. This young Canadian actress has become the protagonist of the bombshell news that has surprised all the fans of To all the boys that I fell in love with: and is that the saga that hooked us to the love story of Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky will have a spin off.

This was announced Netflix recently, explaining that the story will continue to focus on one of the most beloved characters by the public (no, it is not Noah Centineo). We talk about Kitty Song Covey, Lara Jean’s little sister, whose peculiar personality – work and grace of Jenny Han, author of the novels – captivated all the fans of the films. And of course, the entertainment giant has not wanted to miss the opportunity, that is why it will premiere soon a 10-episode series starring Anna Cathcart. From what we know so far, the plot will revolve around the young woman, who travels half the world to meet her boyfriend and realizes that relationships are more complicated than she thought (will we see her again traveling to South Korea? , the country of the moment?).

About the release date of XO Kitty, which is what the spin off will be called, we still don’t know anything. But we do know the story of Anna Cathcart, the new icon for Gen Z that is followed by more than three million people on Instagram.

Suddenly Alexis he stopped taking interest in what he saw on television. That which happened back there between her daughter Lele and her dad Benito, it was more important than anything else at the time. The 12-year-old girl had captured the exact moment when Parkinson’s let the 86-year-old grandfather reconnect with his family for a while and was determined to take advantage of every minute.

It was late, but neither Lele nor Benito were sleepy. Sitting at the table where they had dined some time ago, they now looked together at a leaf. Focused on their respective tasks, she drew as fast as she could and grandfather did his best to stay focused in the story of his granddaughter.

TV was already background noise for Alexis, who watched her daughter come and go, drawing and gluing her little pieces on the window.

Lele’s drawings for her grandfather Benito, which moved everyone on social networks.

“I saw her in the distance and I thought Lele was helping him write, because he has a stimulation booklet. I never thought they could be doing this “, Alexis tells Clarín about the grandfather-granddaughter meeting that went viral on Twitter last week.

When he approached to investigate, he saw that she had armed him a kind of tree familiar to Benito, with drawings and all kinds of clarifications for when his memory starts playing for the other team.

Moved by the tenderness of his daughter, Alexis Valido, known as @elalesi in the social network, He shared the photos of the drawings that his daughter improvised to help the grandfather and instantly the moving gesture became massive.

"From time to time something went viral, but not at this level that the media come to talk to me".

“From time to time something went viral, but not at this level that the media come to talk to me.”

“Parkinson’s is taking in Now 12 my dad and Lele, my daughter, made some pictures for him to see every day and remember his family. * I’ll leave this here for when in a couple of years she asks me, drunk, to go pick her up at a gloomy nightclub “, the journalist, radio producer and drummer of the Simón Fuga band posted for his more than 24 thousand followers.

“I did not expect this, I have several followers but in general what I say goes untapped. From time to time something went viral, but not at this level that the media come to talk to me, I had never experienced that and it surprised me“, says Alexis who even received inquiries from Spain.

With humor and courage, he tries to carry out the enormous challenge posed by a disease that is slowly affecting patients more and more. “We see my dad very often, so it’s like the deterioration is gradual. They are things that suddenly one day are there and the next they are no longer. You know that it will not improve and You have to find these tools in the meantime to be able to enjoy it and that he can also enjoy in his own way “, he describes.

"He recognized Lele, he spent a little while talking to her"Alexis pointed out.

“He recognized Lele, he was talking to her for a while,” Alexis pointed out.

So that Thursday night, seeing Lele with a notepad chatting next to her dad, he understood that the girl had internally shaken the grandfather. “He recognized Lele, he was talking to her for a while,” Alexis recalls and clarifies that many times Benito has some reading problems, but the granddaughter’s magic had knocked out Parkinson’s: “When Lele was by his side, he understood everything.”

At 12 years old, the little girl is not intimidated by the state of her grandfather. Like her sister Zoe and her cousins, she naturalized that Nito may have better days than others and that you have to be there, at the foot of the canyon, to take advantage of all that you can.

“I stood next to him, and I wrote who we were. Later I realized that I had been a little too small and I took another paper to make the bigger pictures “, says Lele when remembering the moment.

"I stood next to him, and I wrote who we were"Lele explained.

“I stood next to him, and I wrote who we were,” Lele explained.

“Many times he asks who each one of us is. It depends a lot on the day. Sometimes he tells me: Angela or Rosita, or names of other relatives. But this time, he was understanding what I was saying. The idea is that you have it on hand and review it when you need it“explains the girl who reissued something similar to the film by Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore “Like it was the first time”.

Lele did not see the movie, but Hollywood did not have to come to tell her that Parkinson’s will never be able to break her bond with Benito: “We have a good relationship, he sometimes does not remember who I am, but we chat or ask me for help. He talks to me about things that happened to him, sometimes he tells me stories about him. “

“She and her sisters and cousins ??are already part of this,” Alexis takes up. “Many times they stay with him to accompany him or take care of him. They give her a hand if my mother is alone or the caregiver is not there. Before, when he connected all day, they spent time with him, but now the bond is stronger and when they see that it is okay they want to take advantage of it “.

The disease was diagnosed three years ago, but contrary to what is believed did not manifest itself with the classic tremors, but with stiffness in some parts of the body and, since December of last year, with a pronounced cognitive problem.

“My dad is not that he loses his memory but that it’s a picture of dementia which was triggered by Parkinson’s. Most likely he no longer remembers anyone else, except for specific things “, Alexis points out that he is aware that Benito is another: “This is no longer my dad, now he is one more patient than my dad. Before he could move, he could walk, he was more lucid. This year its deterioration was very pronounced “.

Lele draws the family tree for her grandfather so he can remember everyone.

Yes, the present is difficult and the future is not encouraging, but what does it matter? If Lele’s plan works perfectly: “Yes, after seeing that he asked where each one he saw was. Now I am going to make another one, with photos of each of the relatives and he will have everything in a folder “.

Anthony Hopkins set a record at the Oscars earlier this year with his Best Actor win for ?The Father.? At 83, he became the oldest person to win an Oscar in any acting category, beating the previous record holder Christopher Plummer, who, in 2012, won Best Supporting Actor for ?Beginners? at age 82. Hopkins may soon be supplanted, though, if voters decide to give another win to one of their favorite dames. Judi Dench is quickly gaining awards buzz for her supporting turn in Kenneth Branagh?s new film ?Belfast,? and if she is nominated and wins, she would make history as the oldest acting Oscar winner at 87 years old.

If Dench, who turns 87 on Dec. 9, is nominated for ?Belfast,? she would also tie the record set by Gloria Stuart in ?Titanic? as the oldest women nominated for an acting Oscar. In terms of oldest winners in Best Supporting Actress, Dench would beat Peggy Ashcroft by 10 years, as the latter won at age 77 for ?A Passage to India? in 1985. The ?Belfast? star would be one of only two women in their 80s to win an Oscar for acting, joining Jessica Tandy for ?Driving Miss Daisy,? who won Best Actress at 80 years old in 1990.

SEE ?Belfast? seeks to score the elusive supporting double-double at the Oscars

In ?Belfast,? Dench plays Granny, the grandmother of Buddy (Jude Hill), a boy living through the civil unrest of Northern Ireland in the 1960s. Granny and her husband, Pops (Ciarán Hinds), room with Buddy and his parents and dispense wisdom to the impressionable young boy. Dench?s character in particular doles out practical advice to Buddy as he grows up in uncertain times. It is the kind of scene-stealing grandmother performance the academy loves to nominate, as seen not once but twice this past year with winner Yuh-Jung Youn (?Minari?) and nominee Glenn Close (?Hillbilly Elegy?).

Dench is a previous Best Supporting Actress winner for 1998?s ?Shakespeare in Love? and has accrued six other acting bids over the years, most recently in 2014 for ?Philomena.? The latest Gold Derby odds have Dench just on the outside of Best Supporting Actress in sixth place. The dame is behind her ?Belfast? co-star Caitriona Balfe; should they both get nominated, it would mark the first time that Dench is competing against a co-star in the same Oscar category.

Two US-China stories seemed to occur independently of each other yesterday. First up, Best Buy and Home Depot pulled security cameras made by some Chinese companies linked to Uyghur surveillance. Both US retail giants have stopped selling products from Lorex and Ezviz, while Lowe’s no longer carries products by the former.

The US government added parent companies Dahua and Hikvision to its economic blacklist in 2019 for their role in the mass surveillance of Uyghur Muslims in the province of Xinjiang. Human rights groups believe over a million Uyghurs are being in internment camps, but China continues to the allegations. Home Depot that it’s “committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical sourcing and [it] immediately stopped selling products from Lorex when this was brought to [the company’s] attention.”

Within the same 24 hours, the FCC then revoked China Telecom’s ability to operate in the US. Following proceedings that involved the Justice Department, the FCC found that China Telecom was likely to comply with requests from the Chinese government, and the commission believes there is the chance of the country affecting and disrupting US communications.

?Promoting national security is an integral part of the Commission?s responsibility to advance the public interest,? the FCC said in a statement. This follows the commission?s actions regarding networking infrastructure from Huawei and ZTE, two companies that bore the brunt of accusations of being threats to national security. The one-time Huawei subsidiary, phone maker , is still waiting to see if it?s going to be labeled similarly. Officials at four federal agencies voted last month whether to place the company on the Commerce Department?s . It was a tie.

China Telecom has 60 days to comply with the order.
